Things to do when people start stealing your blog posts

It’s digital stealing. The different is, when people steal your bun, you have nothing to eat. But if people steal your blog content, it is replicated and you can see it everywhere. You have nothing to loose, but I know how does it feel seeing your works being used by anonymous person you never known. The worst, they are making out of it.

I had once have my blog content copied using RSS parser by unknown parties. They even had my nickname there, so it looks like me myself was adding the content willingly. It’s bad, but nothing we can do to stop it. You can report to host/domain providers, but normally they will refuse to interfere.

However you can report to (if they are making with from your posts). Email the support and do the following to expedite the process;

1. Identify in sufficient detail the copyrighted work that you believe has
been infringed upon. For example, “The copyrighted work at issue is the
text that appears on http://www.legal.co...al_page.html.”

2. Identify the material that you claim is infringing upon the copyrighted
work listed in item #1 above. You must identify each page that allegedly
contains infringing material by providing its URL.

3. Provide information reasonably sufficient to permit to contact
you (email address is preferred).

4. Provide information, if possible, sufficient to permit to notify
the owner/administrator of the web page that allegedly contains infringing
material (email address is preferred).

5. Include the following statement: “I have a good faith belief that use
of the copyrighted materials described above on the allegedly infringing
web pages is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the
law.”

6. Include the following statement: “I swear, under penalty of perjury,
that the information in the notification is accurate and that I am the
copyright owner or am authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an
exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.”

7. Sign the paper.

8. Send the written communication to the following address:

, Inc.
Attn: AdSense Support, DMCA complaints
1600 Amphitheatre Parkway
Mountain View CA 94043

OR Fax to:

(650) 618-8507, Attn: Support, DMCA complaints

Another things to do is by putting somekind of remarks at the bottom of your post feeds using feedburner. Better yet, configure your to populate only excerpts of the posts in the feed so you are not giving full content for free.

More about feedburner things here.

Nice post, but I have to disagree with the part where you suggest using only excerpt feeds - I just unsubscribed from a bunch of feeds that were excerpts, ’cause I was just skipping over them anyway, never wanting to visit to find out what lay after the excerpt… full feeds rock :)

hi Listerator, i agree that’s the bad side of using only excertps. people love to use their favourite reader or aggregator with full content being served.

salam..kalau letak kredit kat last post tu kira ok tak?

  4. mightyhitter Says:

amalan meletakkan kredit pada original author memang diterima pakai.. tapi adalah lebih afdal sekiranya kita minta persetujuan terlebih dahulu.
